Devlog 02 > Starting Small(er)

So we didnt hit our waitlist targets, then I got pretty sick.

I spent a long time debating this project. There are a couple factors weighing on the decision. First, and most obvious, is we might have assumed more interest in the tooling than actually exists.

When you step back a moment and think it out—it makes good sense; you folks have adpated your way to working solutions to a number of the obvious pain points and since you’ve wrangled those needs (however roughly) they don’t push you to solve them again. Totally fair reactions.

I recently got entirely set on my ass by some errant lung bug and had time to mull. I’m currently working on two startups and also my normal responsibilities to my clients and going down for nearly 3 weeks brought things sharply into focus. time is so precious. so is health, and even in 2025 with all the ai helpers kicking about your workload tends to sprawl vertically with the more help you get. Our ambitions grow in direct proportion to our imagined capabilities. Leastwise if you’re one of those sorts of people.

The second consideration weighing is from the discussions I’ve had with a few of you on the waitlist you seem to be more wanting chocolate business managment software with a side helping of ai to streamline—which in and of itself isn’t a horrible idea. but its so niched down as to be probably very financially limited, and with the whole time and health and ambitions (as stated above) it feels strange to invest in a capped idea.

basically when anything is possible why do the small thing?

I still don’t have a great answer for that. Still, with a few hundred of you patiently waiting for any kind of update (or more likely having forgot you even signed up) I felt like it was time to make a decision, and surprisly I decided to properly begin the dev cycle for Craft Cacao.

but smaller.

why do the small thing? because it’s small. which should mean fast. which should mean easier. which sould mean being able to provide value to people with lower stakes.

So, for the moment the goal is to just meet the original need of a recipe validator, manager and storage system. Lets build that out to be rock solid then talk about if it makes sense to build more.

I’ve already begun building it out and hopefully will invite a few folks in in the next couple weeks to play with it.
